From September 4-6, 2024, the UR-DATA team from the Faculty of Economics, University of Niš (FEUN), actively participated in the XLV Annual Scientific Conference titled “Cities and Regions in the Digital Era and the Challenge of the Transition Towards the Circular Economy.” Organised by AISRe, the Italian Section of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI), in cooperation with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the conference focused on the digital and circular transformation and the new opportunities and challenges these changes present for regions and cities.
The UR-DATA team members—Sandra Milanović, Jelena Stanković, and Ivana Marjanović—presented their research on “Exploring the Nexus Between Urban Development and Migration: A Case Study in the Republic of Serbia.” Their presentation was part of the session “The Migration, Environment, and Climate Change Nexus,” where they examined the complex relationships between urban development and migration patterns in Serbia. Their insights contributed to a deeper understanding of how digitalization and the transition to a circular economy impact migration and environmental factors.
The conference gathered experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from digital transformation and the shift towards a circular economy in urban and regional contexts. Key topics included sustainable urban planning, innovative technologies, and policies for facilitating the transition to more resilient and circular economic models.
Participation in this conference provided the UR-DATA team with an excellent platform to share their findings, receive valuable feedback, and engage with international colleagues working on similar issues. Their involvement underscores the project’s commitment to advancing research in sustainable urban development and addressing the critical nexus of migration, environment, and climate change.
