UR-DATA Seminar on Urban Data Visualization at OsloMet

From October 23-25, 2024, the UR-DATA project conducted a comprehensive seminar on Urban Data Visualization at Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway. Organised as part of Work Package WP2 – Raising the Research Profile of FEUN and its Staff, the seminar aimed to enhance scientific research capabilities and promote collaborative research on sustainable urban governance and data-driven solutions.

The event began with opening remarks by key representatives from UR-DATA and OsloMet, setting the stage for a packed agenda. John Östh from OsloMet delivered a keynote, highlighting the seminar’s importance for advancing scientific collaboration and expertise in urban data analytics. A highlight was a presentation by Claudia Romelli from POLIEDRA, Italy, titled Participatory Mapping Approaches and Case Studies, which explored practical methods for community-based mapping and its application to urban policy. In the first day’s workshop, researchers engaged in collaborative brainstorming sessions to align research topics, laying the groundwork for potential joint papers and projects.

On Days 2 and 3, seminar attendees partially joined the Storbykonferansen 2024 conference, where they participated in plenary sessions. These sessions provided an expanded perspective on urban sustainability issues and underscored the role of data visualisation in fostering resilient urban systems.Throughout the seminar, several members of the Faculty of Economics, University of Niš (FEUN), also presented their work.

The event concluded with a wrap-up session facilitated by FEUN and OsloMet representatives, which outlined the next steps for collaborative research and highlighted forthcoming joint initiatives. By aligning these outcomes with the goals of WP2, the UR-DATA project aims to support FEUN’s scientific growth and generate high-impact research for academic publication and funding opportunities.
